Vision of the 'Kleinste Galerie van Nederland' :

thumbnail_ins2.jpg

The founder of the Smallest Gallery in the Netherlands is Dimitri Feenstra and the concept started about 5 years ago. This was in a time of crisis and cut backs, where the arts and culture sector in the Netherlands suffered greatly. As a result, the places and opportunities for artists were under great pressure. It made artists and galleries even more dependent on institutions subsidized by governments and artists' initiatives. In addition, many museums increasingly started to focus on blockbusters, making the exhibition possibilities for most artists even smaller. As a result, the climate for contemporary art in the Netherlands became increasingly scarce. This loss has been the breeding ground for the idea of the Smallest Gallery in the Netherlands in order to create possibilities to show art in an independent way.

In addition to showing my own work, the gallery offers artists a platform for interdisciplinary thinking where ideas and practices can be explored and tested. Because the gallery doesn't have a sales goal it offers the public a dynamic schedule of free and engaging exhibitions.
